Minimalist interfaces is certainly a way to achieve good design, but it’s not the goal.

The problems people encounter in their lives rarely change from generation to generation, but the products they hire to solve these problems change all the time.

Quite simply, it’s the product manager’s job to articulate two simple things:

  1. What game are we playing?
  2. How do we keep score?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution for mobile navigation, it always depends on your product, on your users, and on the context. What works well for others might not work for you and vice versa. However, the foundation of every well designed navigation is information architecture — clear structure, priorities, and labels based on your users’ needs.

Many people have obsolete or overly simplistic beliefs about what is required. A degree in computer science is not required. Good understanding of technology and how to apply it to solve problems is required. An MBA is not required. Good understanding of the workings of business is required.

Good criticism is about helping someone find alternate ways to look at a problem. You see, no one wants to make bad work—but sometimes we can’t help it.

Getting users is far more expensive than keeping users, which means that investing in keeping users is the smartest way to maintain your position and then grow.
